As a Horticulturist, my wife Lisa and I had been looking for the ‘right’ property to buy in Mclaren Vale for a number of years. In early 2008 we couldnt believe our luck when we were able to find a mixed farm with crops such as apples, pears, stonefruit and cherries. Incredibly the farm also grew Shiraz and Cabernet grapes, most of which are 50 years old. As many old plantings had been pulled out during the government funded vine pull in the 80’s this appeared too good to be true and we were quickly the owners of this amazing property.
Our farm is situated on the foothills of McLaren Vale. It has a very unique micro climate with refreshing gully winds that run along the hills in the summer and the maritime influence of the sea that protects us from damaging frosts in the spring. Our soils vary from deep sands over clay to shallow minerally soils to the south east. This variation helps contribute to the amazing end product we are able to make.
