Established as Cobbleys Cider Co. in 1969, The Australian Cider Company has a long rich history. Cobbley’s Cider made its debut in 1971. Made in the Adelaide Hills by a local prominent winemaker, it gathered a huge following in hotels known as Scrumpy and attracted many day trippers to its cellar door. As the years went by the following remained loyal and steady, even when Cobbley’s stopped producing kegs to focus on bottling a wide range of ciders.
A new era began in 1995 when Mel. and Christine Scrivens, with the help of there three children became involved in the cidery. Mel, who spent most of his childhood in England around places like Dorset and Devon is an avid cider drinker. Many of his early years were spent scrumping apples from surrounding orchards to brew his own home made cider. Mel jumped at the opportunity to turn his passion into his business and is now committed to producing the best apple cider.
The family’s fresh, innovative approach has seen the company once again producing kegs for hotels around South Australia. Mel changed the name of the cider, but it is still made to the same recipe dreamed up all those years ago. Mel is committed to using only fresh Australian ingredients to produce his Premium Aussie CIder. It is 100% Australian and 100% natural. No artificial colours or flavours are used in the production, which now takes place in the beautiful Barossa Valley.
Today with a new generation The Australian Cider Company’s products have made a come back in hundreds of bars and restaurants. Fresh, clean, sparkling products mean The Australian Cider Company continues to attract many of the original 70’s tipplers and a whole new generation of cider fans.
